A half million dollar construction project will cause a temporary road closure of Thomas Road at the bridge about 1,000 feet east of FM 1442 starting next week. Orange County Road and Bridge Engineer Clark Slacum reported work on the project is expected to last about five months. During construction the bridge will be closed to all traffic. Detour signs will be installed to assist traffic in getting the closure. Slacum indicated the project is being funded with a grant administered by the General Land Office to replace several bridges and culverts that were damaged as a result of Hurricane Ike. The wooden bridge on Thomas Road will be replaced by a concrete bridge. APAC-Texas, Inc is the contractor on the project.
