The City of Orange, with help from a local business, will be adding benches to area parks. But not just any park bench. Butterfly Park benches providing a touch of art, custom paint, and a stability that will help it withstand our weather. And they’re sure to become popular backdrops for those who love posting pictures on social media.
The City of Orange, with the help of an $11,707.30 grant from DOW Chemical, will spend just over $41,000 on 10 butterfly benches that will be placed at seven different parks around the city.
The benches are custom made by Cricket Forge in Durham, NC. They come in small, medium and large and are fabricated from 1/4″ steel with several hand-forged features, and they’re protected with a flame-sprayed zinc layer. The Butterfly Bench is sprayed with a marine-grade epoxy base and hand-finished.
The city and council have agreed to place benches at City Hall, Navy Park, Lions Den Park, Neighborhood Fac. Bldg. near the Police Station, old City Hall, two at Sunset Park and three at the new park in Cove where the former Cove School stood.
The city has also followed through with improvements at Brownwood Park off Third St. with a new “playscape” for kids.
