Take away next week’s weather forecast and things are looking up for the new turf field at Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School.
“They finally got the material to stabilize and we have passed the roll test,” said LCMCISD Superintendent Stacey Brister. Stabilization as well as rain had become a big issue with the field, which was supposed to be ready August 26 for the season opener.
“Things are moving along now and we feel good about playing our first home game on September 30,” she said. The Sept. 30 game against Spring Legacy is also the Homecoming Game for the Bears. They will also have home games on Oct. 21 and Nov. 4.
The track will be completely finished at a later date because the base layer will require some curing. However the fencing around the stadium and the new scoreboard should also be finished before Sept. 30.
The Bears will open the season Thursday, Aug. 25 against Hardin-Jefferson and that game will be played at The Butch in Beaumont. The following Thursday, Sept. 1, LCM will host WOS at Bridge City. Both games will be broadcast on KOGT.com. LCM will then hit the road for two weeks before having their Bye week on Sept. 23.
