“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’”
Matthew 25:23
Our family’s sweetheart, Gloria Faye Russell Granger, danced her way into the arms of Jesus and was reunited with her cowboy, Charles Richard, on Wednesday afternoon, July 13, 2022, at 6:51pm. She took her last breath as her family surrounded her in prayer praising God for the glorious union that was about to take place with His good and faithful servant.
Gloria Faye was born in Monroe, Louisiana, to John Russell and Ethel Shell. She graduated with perfect attendance from Little Cypress High School in 1959. Gloria, adoringly known to others as “Sissy” or “Granny”, was a devoted wife of 62 years to Charles Richard Granger and a loving mother of three children, Charla, Ricky, and Ed.
An avid prayer warrior with a servant’s heart, she was an active church member of Winfree Baptist Church where she spent many years as a Sunday School teacher teaching little ones about God’s love. She was an exceptional example of portraying the hands and feet of Jesus.
She was always the first to show up at family functions and was the biggest supporter for her grandchildren and great grandchildren at all their endeavors. She was a tough and strong-willed woman yet lit up the room with her infectious smile and witty sense of humor. She loved tending to her flowers, spending time with family, cooking, and Sunday lunches after church. Nobody could make macaroni and cheese like Granny!
She is survived by her daughter, Charla Thomas and husband, Neville, of Orange, son, Ed Granger and wife, Carol, of Orange; grandchildren, Tiffany Thomas and husband, Jeff, of Bridge City, Ashlyn Granger of Orange, Kelsey Harrison and husband, Chad, of Inez, Chason Granger of Orange, Morgan Granger of Bridge City, Madison Granger of Bridge City; great grandchildren, Vance and Kylie Thomas of Bridge City, Emmery Golemon of Bridge City, London and Lincoln Harrison of Inez, CJ Granger of Orange, Leighton Granger of Bridge City; and twin brother, Bill Russell of Orange.
Gloria was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart, Charles Richard Granger, son, Charles Richard Granger, Jr., parents, John and Ethel Russell, brothers, Chuck, Doug, Kent, Ronnie, Gary, and Babe Russell; and sisters, Betty Conway, Lillian Loper, and Gwen Vincent.
A heartfelt thank you to Stacey, Melissa, and Shi at Intrepid Hospice for their empathy and care of our treasured Mother and Granny during her final season with us. We appreciate her best friend, Eva, for visiting often to show her love and care for her. Also, we cannot express how grateful we are for her grandchildren, Tiffany, Jeff, Morgan, Madison, Gloria’s best friend Ellen, along with Janet and Myrna for putting their lives on hold for the last six plus months and putting Gloria’s needs before their own. Thank you to her daughter, Charla, who never left her side, not once, and Kelsey, who was there to help whenever she was in town. Your selflessness is forever appreciated.
A private family memorial was held in Orangefield at the home of Charles and Gloria Granger on Saturday, July 16, 2022, to reminisce about the good times with Granny. She leaves a legacy that will not be forgotten by all who will love and miss her forever.
Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
