Several meetings that were scheduled for this week and next, the last week of the year, have been cancelled because of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. There have also been some meetings called for the final week of 2021.
Bridge City cancelled its City Council meeting on Tuesday this week because a lack of a quorum of council members was expected. The City of Orange has called off its City Council meeting for next Tuesday, December 28. The Orange County Commissioners Court held its final meeting of the year on Tuesday, December 14, and has cancelled its meeting which is normally held on the fourth Tuesday of the month because of the holiday.
There will be two municipal meetings next week though in West Orange and in Bridge City. The West Orange City Council will meet at noon on Monday, December 27, in the West Orange Community Center behind the City Hall to discuss amending the city’s budget for Fiscal Year 2021-2022.
The City Council in Bridge City has called an executive session for Monday, December 27, to discuss further the appointment of a new City Manager to replace Jerry Jones who is retiring in January 2022. The council has met twice in December already to review guidelines for hiring the city manager and to discuss what the citizens of Bridge City need in an administrator to run the city.
There are 12 applicants being considered to fill the position being left by Jones who has served in it for over 16 years. Mayor David Rutledge indicated the council will reduce the number of possible candidates for the city manager from the current 12 to a smaller number of finalists before any interviews with them are done.
The executive session will be Monday evening at 6:00 PM in the City Council Chamber of the City Hall in Bridge City and will be closed to the public. The City Council will reconvene in open session if any action or public comments are to be made.
