Sue Louise Barkley Brasseaux was born on June 14, 1933, and passed away on August 23, 2021. Sue was born to Bennie B Barkley and Louise Graoenberg Barkley in Oklahoma City and moved to Beaumont when she was six years old where she attended South Park schools. She married Bien Brasseaux and was married 54 years before his passing in 2008.
Sue was very involved in Rainbow Girls where she was awarded the Grand Cross of Colors and Worthy Advisor award.
Sue attended Southwestern University Georgetown where she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Methodist Women’s Society and Delta Zeta Sorority. She also attended Lamar University where she completed her Bachelors of Science and a Professional Counselor Certificate. She also received her Masters of Education from McNeese University.
Sue spent the next 30 years serving the community and teaching children. She had a passion for children and taught second grade at Pine Forest Elementary in Vidor where she touched hundreds of student’s lives. During her time in education, she willingly took on many leadership roles and also volunteered her time to help others. She was selected as Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America before her retirement in 1994.
Sue was a lifelong member of Trinity Methodist church where she grew up and later served in many areas. She taught Sunday school, VBS, Sang in Choirs, and volunteered in the office, acted as officers for her Sunday School classes, and worked every year with the garage sale.
Sue Brasseaux is survived by her son, Brian Brasseaux and wife, Lisa; three grandchildren, Brandon Brasseaux and wife, Sarah; Brittany Billinglsey and husband, Trey; and Brooke Brasseaux; and five great-grandchildren, Tatum Brasseaux, Londyn Brasseaux, Whitley Kate Brasseaux, Kayden Billingsley and Trevor Billingsley.
The family would like to thank Wanda Menefee and Cynthia Daniels for taking such good care of Sue in her last year of life; for treating her as if she were a member of their own family. We would not have been able to care for Sue without you. We also appreciate the Texas Total Hospice staff. Your care was very kind and personal and your support for the family went far beyond meeting medical needs.
A gathering of Mrs. Brasseaux’s family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Sunday, August 29, 2021, at Broussard’s, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 30, 2021, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3430 Harrison Avenue, Beaumont. Her interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Beaumont. Please observe social distancing guidelines.
