On August 22, 2021, at 0535 hours, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office’s Dispatch was contacted and informed that Sabine State Bank’s ATM Burglary Alarm had been activated at 483 State Hwy 63E in Burkeville.
Constable White and Newton County Sheriff’s Office Deputies arrived and discovered that the ATM machine doors had been broken into. The ATM machine sustained severe damage, but they couldn’t get any cash out of the ATM machine.
NCSO personnel accompanied by Constable White secured the scene and searched the immediate area for a vehicle or vehicles that may have been used in the break in with negative results. A short time later, a citizen in the City of Newton called and reported an unoccupied vehicle with the motor running, a 2001 Gold, F250 pick-up truck parked on Hwy 87 South just south of the Hwy 190 @ Hwy 87 intersection. Sergeant Blueitt responded and contacted the NCSO and reported that the vehicle did not had a key in the ignition. The Truck may be related to the ATM Burglary in Burkeville. This case is under investigation by the NCSO and the Texas Rangers. We will provide updates to this case when the details become available. Update: NCSO received a delayed hit on this vehicle being stolen out of Northwest Houston.
