Orange County Health Inspector James Scales in July ordered the Sonic Drive-In on 16th Street to improve pest control and make repairs or be shut down for code violations.
The 16th Street Sonic in Orange scored a 79 on the inspection, the lowest in the month. Scales said he found lots of gnats and his office had a complaint about someone finding a gnat in a drink.
He reported the restaurant needed lots of cleaning and maintenance. Plumbing was a problem along with missing floor tiles and grout.
Scales went to 28 food businesses during July with only two earning perfect scores of 100. They were Red Wagon Cafe in Vidor and Days Inn on Interstate 10 in Orange.
Five pre-opening inspections were made with no scores for the new businesses. They are Lom’s Seafood on MacArthur Drive in West Orange, BARE Nutrition on Highway 87 North in Orange, Milano’s Italian Grill on Texas Avenue in Bridge City, Domino’s Pizza on Highway 12 in Mauriceville, and Alley’s Kitchen on FM 1131 in Vidor.
