Orange County Health Inspector James Scales went to nine food businesses at the end of September as he resumed inspections after Hurricane Laura.
None of the nine had a perfect score, though Chick-Fil-A had a 99. The lowest score was an 80 for Pinehurst Barbecue and Steak on Strickland Drive.
Scales gave no score for a pre-opening inspection after storm repairs to the Whataburger on MacArthur Drive. He also made a pre-opening inspection with no score for the Silver Fox Lounge on Texas Avenue in Bridge City. In addition, he temporarily closed the Dominno’s Pizza on North Highway 87 because of a broken water pipe and no water at the handwashing station and three-compartment sink.
Scores and demerits are:
Pinehurst Barbecue and Steak, 100 Strickland Drive: 80. Foods inside coolers needed to be covered and dated. Mold was inside the ice ms.achine and drink dispensors. Floor drains were clogged. Water was standing on the bottom shelf inside reach-in coolers. Several flies were found. Outside of equipment and wallsneeded to be cleaned of old foods. Ceiling tiles were damaged. Certified food manager and food handler certificates had expired. Back storage room needed to be cleaned and organized. Broken equipment needed to be repaired or discarded.
Nolan Food Store, 20390 Interstate 10 West in Vidor: 90. Slight mold was on drink dispensors. Ice scoop was on top of table. Dates were needed on products inside coolers. Drinks were store on the floor inside the walk-in cooler.
Dollar General, 9775 FM 1130 in Little Cypress: 97. Inspector pulled several expired Pepsi products from shelves.

Dow Cafeteria-CBS Catering, 2739 FM 1006 in Orange: 97. Walk-in cooler doors were damaged and needed to be repaired or replaced. Walls and air vents needed to be cleaned of old foods and grease. Floor tiles were broken. Vent-a-Hood system needed to be cleaned. Paint was coming off the ceiling in the back store room. Outside of equipment needed to be cleaned. Floors around fryers needed to be cleaned.
