Orange Police are investigating three thefts that occurred Thursday. Early Thursday morning at 1:30 Officer Dustin Myers was dispatched to the Hampton Inn at 2080 Interstate 10. Myers was notified of a suspect stealing items from a Pike Electric utility truck.
Police dispatch advised that the suspect was wearing a green shirt driving a black utility vehicle. Myers located the black GMC SUV with a Louisiana license tag in the parking lot of the Best Price Inn at 2610 Interstate 10.
Russell Shane Campbell, age 38, was questioned by Myers. Surveillance footage at the Hampton had shown a suspect stealing metal wire. Myers observed two large spools of aluminum wire in Campbell’s vehicle.
The wire was later confirmed to belong to Pike Electric. Campbell was arrested by Myers charges with theft and taken to the Orange County Jail.
Officer Kari Mahaffey was dispatched to 2502 Highway 62 at 6:11 AM Thursday. Mahaffey discovered a gray 2018 Ram truck had the windows broken on it. The owner reported two firearms were taken from the vehicle.
The third theft occurred Thursday afternoon at the Community Church on Martin Luther King Junior Drive. Officer Mahaffey was informed by the church that an orange colored Echo leaf blower had been stolen. The blower had been used, but was left outside on the property where it was taken by an unknown suspect.
