Pinehurst City Administrator Jerry Hood said the city will provide sand bag materials beginning Monday morning.
Sand and bags will be available from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday at the city’s public works department off Lexington Drive. Residents will need to bring shovels so they can fill their own bags.
Hood said the hours will be extended if needed.
Tropical Depression 14 is forecast to develop into a tropical storm and move into the Gulf of Mexico. As of Friday afternoon, the National Hurricane Center forecasts have it strengthening into a Category 1 hurricane (Marco) and heading toward the Texas-Lousiana border late Monday or early Tuesday.
In addition, Tropical Storm Laura in the Atlantic Ocean is heading toward the eastern Gulf of Mexico and could affect the Louisiana-Texas coast by Wednesday.
