The City Council in Pinehurst held a special session Thursday to approve the recommendation of City Administrator Jerry Hood to appoint Giron Hadnott the Interim Fire Chief for the Pinehurst Volunteer Fire Department. Hood earlier requested Hadnott the lone volunteer that did not resign from the fire department on July 27 to recruit new volunteers for the department.
Hadnott will continue to serve as the Fire Marshal for Pinehurst. Hood also appointed Lewis Hogan as the interim assistant fire chief which was approved by the council during the teleconference.
Hood will meet with the two new appointees to place permanent officers and staff into position until the next election can be conducted by the Pinehurst Volunteer Fire Department. This is normally done at the beginning of the year, but will be changed because of the special circumstances involving the mass resignation of the volunteers with the fire department ten days ago.
Former Fire Chief Shon Branham and all but one volunteer, Hadnott, resigned together from the fire department on July 27. The reason given was a disagreement between Branham and Hood on which emergency calls the Pinehurst Volunteer Fire Department would be allowed to respond to dispatcher calls.
