The nine members of the Pinehurst Volunteer Fire Department resigned together on Monday night. Pinehurst City Administrator Jerry Hood assures that efforts are underway to recruit new volunteers for the fire department, and Pinehurst will be protected during the interim in case there is a fire.
The management with both the City of Pinehurst and the City of Orange met after the resignation by the volunteers. Orange has agreed to provide fire services while Pinehurst swiftly rebuilds the Pinehurst Volunteer Fire Department. Hood expressed his thanks to the City of Orange and their firefighters for their coverage during this transition period.
Pinehurst Fire Marshal Giron Hadnott is still serving the city. Hood advised, “Our current fire marshal has volunteered to lead the rebuilding of the fire department and has received an outpouring of support from individuals that are interested and willing to be a part of the Pinehurst Volunteer Fire Department.”
Hood reminded Pinehurst citizens and businesses if they have a fire or medical emergency to please continue to call 911 for assistance. He added there is no timeframe or fee with the mutual aid agreement during which the City of Orange is providing this temporary assistance to the City of Pinehurst.
