Two teenagers sustained minor injuries Wednesday evening when the SUV one of them was driving skidded off Highway 87 North, rolled over in a ditch and hit a utility pole. Two toddlers in the vehicle were not injured.
The accident was reported at 7:41 p.m. in front of North Orange Baptist Church in the 4700 block of the highway.
Orange police said 17-year-old Alexis Abshire of Groves was driving a 2008 Mercury Mountaineer southbound on the highway in heavy rain. The SUV hydroplaned on the wet roadway and went into a ditch. The vehicle rolled onto its right side and was stopped by a utility pole.
Police report she and 15-year-old Kelsey Abshire in the passenger seat had minor injuries and refused an offer to be taken to a hospital. Police issued tickets for driving without a license and failure to drive in a single lane.
