The Commissioners Court met in special session Tuesday afternoon. Despite a long agenda of 36 items, the meeting was completed in just an hour.
Commissioners continue to prepare to contend with the Coronavirus if and when it appears in Orange County. The Commissioners approved transferring funds from the Contingency Fund to be used for Public Health Measures. The amount transferred was $25,000.
The Commissioners approved the purchase of three vehicles for the Maintenance Department. The Court had hoped to buy two pickup trucks and an SUV locally, but the lone local bid was higher than the state allowed margin for rejecting a low bid. Silsbee Ford was awarded the contract for a F150, a F250, and an Escape for $77,580.
Silsbee Ford also submitted the low bid for another F150 4X4 to be used by the Parks Department. The Commissioners awarded them that contract too for $28,822.
The Sheriff’s Office is waiting on the delivery of Chevy Tahoes that were budgeted and ordered last year. Sheriff Keith Merritt informed the Court that the factory where the Tahoes are to be made went on strike at about the same time the request from the county was made causing the delay.
The purchase of two cameras for the Vidor Sub-Courthouse was approved. The cost will be 17,391 dollars. The cameras are to replace two defective cameras on the outside of the Sub-Courthouse building.
County Clerk Brandy Robertson was given approval to purchase a Scan Pro 3000 All-In-One for her office. The price of the scanner is $13,435.
In conjunction with the pending United States Census the Commissioners Court approved contracting with Allison, Bass, and Magee to assist the county with professional services for redistricting because of the census count. The contract is for three years at a total cost of $35,000.
