The aroma of pumpkin spice fills Ann Brown’s kitchen. She and her 8-year-old granddaughter, Abby, have been baking pumpkin bundt cakes for the past few days. They’ve sold 52 so far to help raise money to help people flooded by Imelda.
For Abby, a third grade student at Bridge City Elementary, the baking has become a way to practice her Sunday School teachings of sharing. It’s also a way of continuing family history and tradition.
Brown said the baking duo is using a recipe from Brown’s grandmother, Abby’s great-great-grandmother.
The effort has also been a way to help Brown deal with the death of her own mother earlier this year. Abby has been wearing a gingham apron worn by her grandmother’s mother (great-grandmother).
Abby attends St. Paul United Methodist Church in Bridge City where she has been learning how to share her talents and offerings in stewardship. Contact her through her Ann McAdams Brown facebook page.
