Improving drainage and clearing ditches are priorities in the City of Bridge City. Jerry Jones the City Manager of the city outlined some of the projects underway to improve drainage in his community.
The city manager has some revised numbers on clearing the ditches in the Elsie addition. The cost will be in the neighborhood of $250,000 to do that project. Jones will be looking for rough estimates from three different contractors before work can begin.
Bridge City had one group of roadside ditches approved by FEMA for funding, but two other groups were not approved. Contracted engineers for the city are seeking to get the state and FEMA to combine all three projects. Jones added they will then bid all three as one project.
Work is continuing on the Crepe Myrtle ditch, and it is looking good according to Jones. The city has found a way to do in-kind on that ditch, but cannot use all of the $55,000 in grants on the Center project. “We’ll do the in-kind and what we get out of that we’ll combine it with what is left for the other one and be able to contract the Center ditch too,” Jones reported.
Bridge City has been undertaking a sewer line replacement project as well primarily for low to moderate income residents. Jones updated that 125 sewer lines to residences have been completed. There are 43 residences remaining on the grant project.
