A 20-year-old Vidor man will have to spend 45 years in state prison for murdering his girlfriend’s stepfather two years ago.
A jury in the 163rd District Court Thursday gave the punishment to Keenan LeDoux after finding him guilty of murder for shooting and killing 46-year-old Gregory Paul Goldsmith.
Goldsmith was shot at his residence in Vidor about 8:15 p.m. on July 4, 2017.
Assistant District Attorney Krispen Walker said the investigation is being reopened to see if anyone else should be charged in connection with the homicide.
Testimony showed LeDoux was living in a small, separate building next to the family’s mobile home on Carla Street. Goldsmith was shot with a 12-gauge shotgun at the front steps to the outbuilding.
LeDoux said he shot in self-defense as Goldsmith was charging at him.
Walker said a neighbor across the street was outside grilling weenies and saw the shooting. The witness testified she saw Goldsmith walk up to the outbuilding. The door opened and a gun barrel was stuck out. The gun fired and Goldman was hit.
Walker said phone text messages between LeDoux, his girlfriend, and her mother, were used. The messages are leading authorities to reinvestigate to see if other people were involved.
