The lowest food inspection score for the first part of July was an 87, one of the highest low scores in recent years. Orange County Health Inspector James Scales went to 24 restaurants and food businesses during the first two weeks of the month.
Demerits he found included a convenience store in Vidor with maggots on pet foods in storage and a few restaurants had mold in their ice machines.
Only three had perfect scores. The businesses were Fresh Prep on West Roundbunch Road in Bridge City, LaQuinta Inn and Suites on Highway 62 South in Orange, and Red Wagon Cafe No. 2 on West Freeway in Vidor.
Scales gave two no scores on special inspections. One was for a new owner of Burger Town in Bridge City and the other was a pre-opening inspection of Family Dollar in Northway Shopping Center in Orange.
