The U.S. Marshal Service has arrested the Houston man accused of punching a man in the Home Depot parking lot last week after a confrontation about dragging a flag.
46-year-old Terrance Watson, who has family ties in Orange, has been charged with aggravated assault in connection with the July Fourth incident. He is in the Orange County Jail and the sheriff’s office reports the U.S. Marshal Service is listed as the arresting agency.
The victim, 39-year-old Brandon Scott of Nederland, posted about the attack on his Facebook page. He said his jaw was broken and he had to have surgery.
The Facebook post said Scott had seen a man dragging something. When he stopped to tell the man in the parking lot, he noticed it was a U.S. flag. He said the man punched him in the face when he encountered him.
Watson posted on his Facebook page before the incident, “I’m here in Orange, Texas all week and I’ll be dragging this coward ass flag and if you don’t like it come get it, I’m not hard to find.”
The patrol officer who responded to the complaint reported the suspect had left the parking lot before police arrived.
Orange police detectives interviewed the victim at St. Elizabeth Hospital on Friday July 5 and then filed the aggravated assault charges that afternoon. Detective Captain Robert Enmon said surveillance video from the store recorded the attack.
