
Restaurants and food businesses were pretty spiffy in the last part of May. Orange County Health Inspector James Scales went to 23 places in the last two weeks of the month and all scored A’s and B’s.
Lucy’s Cafe on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Pinehurst was the only one to earn a perfect 100 rating.
The lowest score was an 81 and went to Kotoyama on MacArthur Drive in Pinehurst with no major violations.
Scales made a pre-opening inspection with no score at Daniel’s Delights, 1430 Highway 90 in Vidor.

Kotoyama, 2226 MacArthur Drive in Pinehurst: 81. Foods needed to be covered inside coolers and freezers. Slight mold was on ice machine. Faucet at the three-compartment sink was dripping. No one had food handler certificates within date. Dates were needed on products. Employee answered cell phone and then did not wash hands. Wiping cloths were on prep table. Foods were stored on floor inside walk-in freezer. Vents at Vent-a-Hood needed to be cleaned. Floors needed to be cleaned. Current health inspection was not posted in front.
LaCantina Mexican Grill, 2709 MacArthur Drive in Orange: 88. Inspector pulled several dishes that had been cleaned but still had old foods stuck. Gasket on reach-in cooler was damaged and door was not secure. Foods needed to be covered and dated inside reach-in coolers and freezers. Employee drinks and wiping cloths were on prep table.
Greek Gyros, 1925 Texas Avenue in Bridge City: 89. Plumbing under three-compartment sink was dripping into a bucket. Handwashing sink had only hot water and needed cold water. Signs needed at handwashing station. Dates were needed on products inside coolers and freezers. Paper towels were needed at the handwashing station. Vent-a-Hood area needed to be cleaned. Roman’s Italian Bistro, 995 West Roundbunch Road in Bridge City: 90. Mold was inside ice machine. Water was on bottom shelf inside reach-in cooler. Dates were needed on products inside reach-in coolers and freezers. Soap and paper towels were needed at handwashing station. Signs needed at handwashing station. Reel Cajun, 2900 West Sunset Drive in Orange: 90. Beans were cooling improperly on top of cart. Eggrolls were not a proper temperatures. Front cooler was dripping water onto products. Employee drinks were stored improperly Vent-a-Hood area needed to be cleaned of old grease.
Market Basket, 800 North Main Street in Vidor: 90. Inspector pulled several expired foods from shelves. Paper towels were needed in the employee restroom. A leak was in the ceiling inside the walk-in dairy cooler. Several gnats were on onions in the produce department. Floors inside walk-in cooler and back storage are needed to be cleaned. Wood should not be placed inside the dailr and produce coolers.
Market Basket Deli, 800 North Main Street in Vidor: 91. Hot was was only 103.8 degree temperature instead of 118 degrees. Dates were needed on products in coolers. Floor tiles were damaged. Storage shelves, equipment, and floors needed to be cleaned. Hot water was at proper temperature to wash hands, but not to wash dishes.
Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins, 580 North Main Street in Vidor: 92. Ice scoop was on top of ice machine. Proper dates were needed on products. Foods were stored on floor throughout. Outside of containers, floors, and walls needed to be cleaned.
Paul’s Seafood Connection, 7226 Highway 12 in Vidor: 93. No one had food handler certificates. Hot water started at 110 degrees and went down. Hair restraints needed. Vent-a-Hood and floors needed to be cleaned. Area outside needed to be cleaned and old or unsued equipment needed to be discarded.
Family dollar, 1301 North 16th Street in Orange: 93. Inspector pulled several expired foods from shelves. Spider webs were found throughout store. Shelves inside milk cooler needed to be cleaned. Dumpster area needed to be cleaned of trash. Storage room need to be cleaned. All storage shelves needed to be cleaned.
Sonic Drive Inn, 2805 MacArthur Drive in West Orange: 93. Foods inside coolers and freezers needed to be covered. Dates were need on products and correct dates stamps were needed on all foods. Vent-a-Hood, outside of equipment, floors, walls, ceilings, and air vents needed to be cleaned.
Pirates Stop, 1883 North Main Street in Vidor: 94. Inspector pulled several expired foods from shelves. Drinks were stored on the floor inside the walk-in cooler. Back door needed to be resealed. Current health inspection report was not posted in front.
Petromart, 4080 Interstate 10 West in Orange: 94. Inspector pulled several expired foods from shelves. Inspector found several dead insects inside light shields in back storage room. Drings were stored on the cloor. Current food service permit and current health inspection were not posted in front.
Dollar General, 11990 FM 1442 in Orange: 95. Inspector pulled several expired foods from shelves. Shelves inside milk cooler needed to be cleaned of old foods. Current health inspection report was not posted in front.
Family Dollar, 115 West Bolivar Street in Vidor: 95. Inspector found lots of spider webs, several dead roaches, and lots of dead flies in the back storage room and employee restroom areas. Drings were stored on the floor. Shelves throughout and inside milk cooler needed to be cleaned. Dumpster area needs to be cleaned of trash on ground. Floors throughout needed to be cleaned. Store needed to be organized.
7-Eleven, 527 Highway 87 South in Orange: 95. Gasket on walk-in cooler door was damaged. Drinks were stored on the floor inside walk-in cooler and on sales floor. Shelves inside walk-in cooler needed to be cleaned. All floor mats needed to be cleaned of dirt. Rusted ceiling grids needed to be repaired.
Walgreen’s, 1408 16th Street in Orange: 95. Inspector pulled several expired drinks from walk-in cooler. Mice feces were in back storage area. Floors under milk inside the walk-in cooler needed to be cleaned of old milk. Floors inside walk-in freezer needed to be cleaned of trash. Ice was built up on door to freezer.
The Stuffed Mushroom Kitchen, 2000 Strickland Drive in Orange: 96. Cell phone and wiping cloths were on top of prep table. Utensils were stored improperly inside buckets. Kitchen needs to be cleaned and organized. Back door was left open because the air conditioner was not working properly.
Dairy Queen, 2426 16th Street in Orange: 97. The reach-in freezer door had ice build-up. Outside of fryers and Vent-a-Hood area needed to be cleaned of grease.
Dollar Tree, 2013 Texas Avenue in Bridge City: 97. Foods were stored on the floor throughout the sales area and inside the walk-in cooler and freezer. Floor inside walk-in freezer needed to be cleaned of trash. Ceiling tiles near front register were damaged.
CVS Pharmacy, 485 Texas Avenue in Bridge City: 98. Inspector found lots of spider webs. Drinks were stored on the floor inside the walk-in cooler.
