Monday the Bridge City School Board voted to add the name of longtime coach and trainer Herman “Moe” Litton to the football stadium.
“The field will be named in honor of Mr. Litton,” Superintendent Todd Lintzen said. So whether you say Larry Ward Stadium at Moe Litton Field or Moe Litton Field at Larry Ward Stadium, that is to be determined, along with the signage Lintzen said.
Litton passed away in October of last year. Alumni from the 1966 State Championship football team approached the school board after he died and went through the procedure to have Litton’s name added.
“The group followed the guidelines,” Lintzen said. “The six month waiting period ended last week and that’s why it was brought to a vote at our Monday meeting. I thought it was a great gesture and so did many on the board.”
The board will decide how the signage will be handled at the next board meeting.
Lintzen added that the formal dedication will take place during BC’s first home football game, which will be the first game of the season.
Mickey Gisclar, Litton’s daughter, had a hard time saying how appreciative she was while holding back tears. “Daddy loved Bridge City,” she said. “We are so honored that they’re doing this for him.”
Gisclar added that her granddaughter Kyndall Harrison decided to try out for cheerleader her senior year after not participating since junior high. She was selected to the team and told her grandmother, “I just thought it would be cool to cheer on a field named after my grandfather.”
