Lona Estelle Harvey, 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at Vidor Health and Rehab where she lived.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Sunday. May 19, at Adams EE Stringer Funeral Home in Buna, Texas with burial at Antioch Cemetery. Family Friend Pastor Bubba Thompson will be officiating. Visitation will begin 1 hour prior to funeral time.
Lona was born in her grandparents log cabin in Kirbyville on May 30, 1932 to Stella Karr Chamblee. Her grandparents had the privilege of helping raise her and watching her play basketball throughout school. Her senior year she was awarded “Most Athletic” and received a scholarship to play ball at a Texas University. She declined the offer and chose to get married and start a family instead. Residing in Mauriceville since 1989, Lona dedicated her entire adult life to taking care of others, helping raise grandkids, working in home health, and spending days at a time looking after the elderly. She loved to travel with her friends and family, whether it be by car, bus or train. One of her favorite places to visit were the Ozarks in Arkansas.
Waiting patiently on the other side were her husband of 36 years, Hubert Gene Harvey; brother, Thomas Chamblee; sister, Etha Mae Denman; and son, Randall Wayne Harvey.
She is survived by two daughters, Diana Williams and husband Rudy of Lumberton; and Donna Sue Williams and Dooley of Groves; 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and other extended family. Her legacy will live on in those whose hearts she’s touched.
