The annual audit of the City of Bridge City was received by the City Council on Tuesday. Certified Public Accountant Keri Michutka performed the audit for the year ending September 30, 2018.
Michutka reported good news as far as the city’s fund balance at the conclusion of the fiscal year. She stated that Bridge City began the fiscal year with a deficit balance of $151,000 and ended it $550,000 in the positive.
The auditor detailed that the sales tax revenues increased by $300,000 from the prior year, fines and forfeitures were up $100,000, property taxes went up $100,000, and the city sold the old police station for another $200,000. “Just that right there makes up seven hundred thousand dollars,” Michutka indicated.
Bridge City will be applying for a Community Development Block Grant. The City Council approved the city to apply for the grant to the Texas Department of Agriculture.
The council also approved submitting a waiver of the low-to-moderate income requirements as part of an existing block grant the city has already applied to receive. The waiver if accepted by the Department of Agriculture will allow Bridge City to complete sewer work for properties that may not fall under the low-to-moderate income level after all of those that do qualify are completed.
