AL.com in Alabama has reported that Orange native Deionte Thompson, who recently declared himself eligible for the NFL Draft after his junior season at the University of Alabama, has been cleared of any wrongdoing after being indicted for aggravated assault.
Thompson and three others were accused of beating a man on Crystal Beach in March 2017 during Spring Break.
In a statement to AL.com, Thompson’s attorney said, “I believe that (the district attorney’s office) took another look at the information that they had in regard to the case and reconsidered their position,” said Sean Villery-Samuel. “That’s all we were ever asking them to do from the beginning was just to look at everything you have. And after doing that, I believe they came to the right conclusion, that he had nothing to do with this.”
The NFL Draft is scheduled for April 25-27. Thompson, an AP All-American at safety, is expected to go high in the draft.
