
Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll this afternoon said the armed man arrested in Sequin Sunday morning was targeting First Baptist Church of Vidor.
A caller notified Sequin police about 7 a.m. after seeing a suspicious man who was wearing a surgical mask and tactical-style clothing. Sequin police report he said “he was on his way to church to fulfill a prophecy.”
Chief Carroll said Sequin police contacted Vidor police when they learned the man was headed there. He said Vidor police immediately contacted the pastor of First Baptist about the situation.
Vidor police have been working with Sequin police, the FBI, Texas Rangers and ATF in investigating the threat.
Tony Albert of Houston was arrested and was charged with felon in a possession of a firearm and possession of marijuana.
Police said he had a loaded firearm and extensive ammunition.
He is currently in the Guadalupe County Jail with a total bond of $200,000.
Chief Carroll said family members report Albert has a history of mental illness.
