On Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at approximately 6:36 PM, the Vidor Police Department received a call from the Walmart Super Store in the 1300 Block of N. Main Street in reference to a shop lifting in progress. The caller advised that 2 females were inside the store shoplifting. The suspects attempted to walk out of the store with $112.36 worth of make-up, and beauty accessories. When confronted with the theft by Walmart’s Loss Prevention Officer, one of the females got into a white Mercedes with paper plates and left the parking lot. The second suspect, Stormie Lee Hernandez, began to argue with the Loss Prevention Officer that she had not stolen anything. Ms. Hernandez assaulted the Loss Prevention Officer with her forearm and elbow. She then dumped the stolen items on the ground from her purse before running off through the parking lot.
A Good Samaritan, an off-duty Fire Fighter, witnessed the assault and chased after Ms. Hernandez. Upon seeing the Good Samaritan chasing her, Ms. Hernandez, swung her purse at the Good Samaritan. The Good Samaritan was able to detain the suspect until officers arrived. Officers placed the suspect under arrest as follows:
Name: Stormie Lee Hernandez Age: 24 years of age
Charge: Robbery ( Second Degree Felony) Hometown: Beaumont, TX
Due to an assault taking place during the theft, the charge was upgraded to Robbery, which is a 2nd degree Felony punishable by incarceration in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice not less than 2 years or more than 20 years.
The Vidor Police Department would like to acknowledge the Good Samaritan for his efforts in protecting our community.
