
The opening game of district saw the state-ranked East Chambers Buccaneers jump out to a big lead. The Orangefield Bobcats rallied in the second half to make game of it, but East Chambers prevailed 60-50 at the Bobcats Gym on Tuesday night.
The Buccaneers scored the first seven points of the game and led by 10 after the first quarter. The Bobcats played it closer in the second quarter thanks to six points from Valentin Catt. East Chambers enjoyed a 17-point advantage at the half.
The third quarter actually saw Orangefield outscore East Chambers 17-6 to close the gap to six with eight minutes to play. Coy Bryant hit two three-pointers, Catt added two more field goals, and Heston Puckett came off the bench to net four points including a basket right before the buzzer to end the third.
Unfortunately, the Bobcats could never get closer than six in the fourth. The Buccaneers got a strong final period from Derek DeMass, Jayce Guillory, and Ernest Ceaser each tallying six points. Free throw shooting was a big factor for East Chambers as the Bucs sank 14 of 16 from the line.
East Chambers had three players in double figures. Ken Smith was nearly perfect shooting from the field and made all three of his free throws for 19 points. Ceaser had 15 and DeMass finished with 10.
Seven Bobcats registered points in the score book. Catt finished with 12 points including a slam dunk in the fourth quarter. Bryant likewise scored 12 on four three-point baskets. Kaiden Dubose got all 8 of his points in the fourth quarter including a late three-pointer. Cade Prejean added five.

The Varsity girls game was a battle of two undefeated teams in district. When it was over the Orangefield Lady Bobcats were the only one of the two teams still without a loss. The Lady Bobcats mauled the East Chambers Lady Buccaneers 64-34 on Tuesday night at the Bobcats Gym.
Orangefield scored the first seven points in less than two minutes and continued to pour it on in the opening period. The score was 19-3 after the first quarter. Jacey Bourque scored all 7 of her points in the first quarter including a three-point basket.
Emmi Lummus sank a three-pointer with 2:20 to go in the half to increase the Lady Bobcats lead to 28-8. Another three by Macie Adrio moved the advantage to 23 points. The Lady Bucs made a nice run to close out the half, but still trailed 33-14 as the teams went to the locker room.
The Lady Bobcats’ Faith Fregia had a marvelous game scoring in every quarter. The third period was her largest contribution with seven points. Fregia finished the night as the high scorer with 20.
Joining Fregia in double figures was Lummus with 17 points. Emmi had one of six three-pointers made by the Lady Bobcats. She also made the only two free throws attempted by Orangefield.
