
Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) apprehended a driver who attempted to flee after a traffic stop on Friday in Orange County. While on a routine patrol Friday night at about 7:00 PM a DPS trooper observed a silver Ford SUV make several unsafe lane changes from the access road onto the eastbound entrance ramp of Interstate 10 near mile marker 875.
The trooper activated the emergency lights on his vehicle to conduct a traffic stop. The trooper made contact with the driver for a few minutes before the driver of the SUV took off in his vehicle. The driver fled and exited the freeway near mile marker 872. He was traveling at an unsafe speed and drove into a ditch on Lewis Drive.
The driver of the SUV was Joseph Sloan, age 33, of Houston. He was taken into custody by DPS troopers and deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Sloan was transported to the Orange County Jail without further incident and was booked on the charges of evading and driving while intoxicated, third or more.
