
A 47-year-old man is in a local hospital with head injuries after he was hit by a car during an argument with his girlfriend. Police went to the 2800 block of Enner Road about 11:30 Saturday morning and found the man lying in the street with lacerations to his head and face. He had to be taken by Acadian Ambulance to an out-of-town hospital.
Detective Captain Robert Enmon said the man told officers he and his girlfriend had been arguing. She was driving away out of the driveway and he was trying to stop her. He told investigators it was an accident.
A 13-year-old boy was injured Sunday afternoon by a falling basketball goal after a passing van hit the goal because it was in the street. Police report the boy’s mother was given a ticket for obstructing traffic with the goal.
Police went to the 300 block of Dewey Avenue in the Navy Park area at 3:30 p.m. The officer’s report said a 2016 Chevrolet 3500 van belonging to a Lake Charles business was driven by a 26-year-old Lake Charles man. The teen was playing basketball in the street with the goal, that had been set up in the roadway.
When the van approached, the teen moved out of the street and stood next to the goal. The van drove by and the upper part hit the top of the goal. The goal then fell over onto the teen, injuring his shoulder. Police report he refused medical treatment at the scene.
A 26-year-old man stopped for not having a back license plate is now facing a state jail felony for possession of the drug ecstasy. Police reported stopping a Lincoln Continental at 12:12 a.m. Saturday in the 2400 block of 16th Street.
The patrol officer found seven small zip-style plastic baggies in the cup holder. The baggies had a design with a money bag or a mushroom. One of the bagies had three tablets the officer identified as ecstasy. In addition, he reported finding two digital scales, one under the driver’s seat and the other in the glove compartment.
Roderick Demond Simmons Jr. of Orange was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and taken to the Orange County Jail.
