The Orange County Convention and Expo Center houses the county’s Road and Bridge Department, the Emergency Management Office, and the Texas Agri-Life Office. During disaster situations the Emergency Operations Center is activated in the Convention Center located on FM 1442.
Communications is important for all those offices, but there is a problem with the cell phone service at the Convention Center. County Maintenance Director Kurt Guidry has been working to get a cell phone booster to improve the service at the Convention Center.
Guidry has been in contact with Maverick Communication checking on where is the cell phone booster the county is purchasing from Maverick for the Convention Center. Maverick indicated tracked it down and it should be delivered to Orange County by Wednesday, December 5. When the county receives the booster, Guidry will schedule a work day to install the equipment at the Convention and Expo Center.
Replacing the Commissioner Precinct 2 office which was seriously damaged in Harvey has kept Guidry busy. He has been receiving quotes from two companies on the county purchasing a new modular building to replace the old facility. The quotes range from $83,000 to $99,000 for the modular building to be placed on the site where the previous office is located.
Guidry is still working out the particulars for the specs of the building’s interior including color and especially the flooring. He is seeking Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) for the flooring. LVT requires much less maintenance to clean and polish that most other tile floorings.
