The Celebration of Life for Mrs. Brenda Baker will be Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 9 am at Johnson Chapel, 5730 Calhoun Rd in Houston, TX.
Rites of Christian Burial will follow in Two Mile Paradise Cemetery in Leona, TX under the direction of Sparrow Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 8 until 9 am.
Brenda Joyce Phillips Baker was born October 4, 1951 to Thelma Ree Phillips McWright and Clarence McGowen in Houston, Texas. She attended Wesley Elementary and M.C. Williams High School. Brenda married Joseph Baker on June 24, 1973. They divorced in 1982.
She met Vorris E. Locks (Vel) and was blessed with a twelve-year-old daughter.
Brenda worked for Bank of America. In the early nineties she switched career paths and started her journey at Reily Wesco (Wesco Distributions). Brenda retired from Wesco Distributions in 2016.
She loved the Lord and confessed to Christ in the mid-nineties after attending a performance with her eldest granddaughter. She became a member at Windsor Village United Methodist Church. In her later years she would visit East Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
Brenda was also a part of the Rodeo and Trailride Organization. She was well known for “two stepping”. She was also a member of Circle J, Southwestern Trailriders Association and a life member of Cowgirls With Attitude. Brenda also was a life member of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo (Rodeo Express).
Brenda departed this life Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 6:20 p.m.
She was proceeded in death by her father Clarence McGowen, mother Thelma Ree Phillips McWright, grandfather Tommie Phillips, grandmother Ella Mae Phillips, and two uncles, Fitcher Lee Phillips and Tommie Claude Phillips.
She leaves to cherish her memories one aunt Ola Faye Edwards Riles (Red Riles), one brother, C.W. Phillips, one daughter Tanya Locks-Crossley (Darick Crossley), two granddaughters who meant the world to her, De’Shi’Omonique’ Locks and Te’Zauria Williams Locks all of Houston, TX, as well as beloved nephew, Byron Phillips, nieces, cousins, other relatives, CWA, Wesco, Rodeo Express, and friends.
