Two Port Arthur men are facing 46 charges each after being found by Texas game wardens with illegal catches.
Game Warden Clint Caywood with the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife said each man faces 20 violations of possession of undersized flounder, 20 violations of excess number of flounder, five charges of possession of lightning welks (the state sea shell), and one charge of untagged red drum.
He said the two men had been on a commercial shrimp boat.
The violations are each a Class C misdemeanor with a fine of $25 to $500 on each charge. Caywood would not name the two men. The charges were filed in Jefferson County Precinct 8 justice of the peace.
Caywood said he and another game warden saw a truck carrying sacks of shrimp and fish traveling on a highway. He said vehicles transporting commercial fish must have a special registration sticker. The truck did not have the sticker and the game wardens stopped the truck for the traffic violation.
