A jury Wednesday afternoon decided a 29-year-old man should serve life in prison for beating his domestic partner to death last year.
The jury earlier had found Jerry Chargois Williams guilty of murdering 28-year-old Stormy Leeann Williams. The couple had three young children.
Stormy Williams died at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas the day after she had been found unconscious and barely breathing at their residence, No. 2 East Sunset Drive at Pacific Street.
Prosecutor Krispen Walker said Stormy Williams had two fatal injuries. One was brain swelling because of a head injury, and the other a lacerated liver. She said Stormy Williams bled to death because of internal injuries.
Police said doctors reported the victim had bruises on her face and abdomen, traumatic injury to both hips, plus multiple bruises in various phases of healing.
Jerry Williams took the stand in the trial and said he and his partner had argued after he told her another woman was pregnant with his baby. Walker said Jerry Williams told the jury Stormy back-handed him in the mouth and he then slapped her. He said she fell and hit her head on a door hinge.
He said he helped her to the shower and she went to bed.
Testimony showed he did not call for help until almost 12 hours after she went to bed.
The trial was held in the 163rd State District Court before Judge Dennis Powell.
