Another step was taken Tuesday by the Commissioners Court to borrow eight million dollars for the county. The Court approved authorizing the issuance of the $8 million in tax anticipation notes series 2018 through Wells Fargo Bank.
The loan will be used to cover expenses for the county over the next two months to the beginning of the next calendar year. Treasurer Christy Khoury said county reserves are about $5.5 million including restricted funds. The county would deplete those reserves before revenues from property taxes begin coming into the Courthouse in January which is the reason for the loan being taken.
It is hoped the county will only need the first draw of two million dollars and then pay off the loan by January 15, 2019. If this is done the county will only need to pay interest on the initial $2 million and not the entire eight million.
Only one bid was received by County Purchaser Connie Cassidy for prescription pharmacy services for the Orange County Jail. The lone bidder was Haney and Haney which is the current provider of pharmacy items to the jail. Cassidy said the bid would mean no increase in price for the county. The Commissioners Court awarded the contract to Haney and Haney.
The Commissioners awarded contracts to low bidders for road material on 17 different line items. Five other line items received no bids, and Cassidy will rebid those items.
Emergency Management Coordinator Joel Ardoin received approval to allow AECOM to house three to five of their personnel at the Orange County Convention and Expo Center. The personnel will begin taking applications in December for the General Land Office Housing Assistance Program.
The fifth annual Orange County Special Angels Rodeo is this Saturday. The Commissioners Court issued a proclamation recognizing Saturday, November 10, as Special Angels Rodeo Day in Orange County. The rodeo will be held at the T2 Arena on Old Peveto Road from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday.
Wednesday is the 97th birthday for a special person who lives in Orange County. Cedric Stout celebrates his birthday that day.
Stout is a World War II veteran and was serving on the USS Utah at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on December 7, 1941 when the Japanese attacked on that day of infamy. Stout’s ship was sunk during the attack and serves as a memorial for the 64 crewmen that died in the attack.
The Commissioners Court recognized Wednesday, November 7, as Cedric Stout Day, with a proclamation. The Court saluted all veterans for their service to our country. Sunday, November 11, is Veterans Day.
