The Orange Planning and Zoning Commission Tuesday will have a public hearing on changing the plat of lots around Spanky’s Bar and Grill on 16th Street. Interim City Manager Kelvin Knauf said the change will allow for future expansion of the restaurant.
The restaurant is at 1703 16th Street at the northwest corner of 16th and Link Avenue. The replat will include 1703 and 1705 16th Street, 1704 and 1706 Link Avenue, and 1704 and 1706 17th Street. The restaurant, which is nearly 30 years old, is owned by Mike Lemoine.
In September, the Orange City Council and Orange Economic Development Corporation approved a $50,000 grant to help expand the restaurant’s parking lot with 38 extra spaces. City Economic Development Director Jay Trahan at the time said Lemoine is planning $213,000 in improvements. The city EDC money comes from a special sales tax approved by voters.
In a memo to Planning and Zoning Commissioners, Knauf said the re-plat of the property will help the restaurant expand in the future by removing the lot lines and the required building setbacks.
The Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the council chamber next to the Orange Public Library.
