The district season is down to just two games and Little Cypress-Mauriceville is still very much in the mix for the playoffs. Even a district championship is still a possibility.
Coach Randy Crouch said the Bears had a good game against Livingston last week. There were no Bears injured in the game. The coach praised the Bears that he was excited about the win and the team rebounding from the tough loss to Splendora the week before. “I am awful proud of their effort,” Crouch shared.
A key district game is this Friday at Huffman. Crouch is very familiar with the Falcons’ air attack. They are a wide open Spread Offense. The Falcons line up with four wide receivers and one running back while looking to spread the field and throw the football as their offensive game plan.
The Falcons always have an excellent quarterback and that has not changed this season. Justin Shively will throw the football for Huffman just as he did last season. Among the receivers he will toss the ball are Aaron Johnson and Garrett Halbrooks.
Huffman usually has a strong offensive line which gives good protection to the quarterback giving him time to find an open receiver. Crouch predicted, “We’re going to have a heck of a challenge again playing against Huffman.” He is hoping for some carryover from the excellent performance last week in the shutout against Livingston.
Little Cypress-Mauriceville has had Huffman as a district opponent for several years. Crouch analyzed the Falcons on defense. Huffman bases out of a four-man even front on defense, but will give opponents a 50 look as well. Crouch observed that the Falcons play solid on defense, line up good, and do not beat themselves.
Leaders on defense for Huffman are linebacker Devin Higgins and defensive end Caleb Tifflin. Both make penetrations and are threats to sack the Bears’ quarterback. The LC-M running game needs another strong effort against the Falcons. Crouch advised, “We’re going to have to block and tackle really well again. We need to play good fundamental football, and I think that will be the key to the game.”
The Bears have one district loss, the Falcons have two. Neither team wants to drop another game, and this game will definitely impact the seeding for the playoffs at the end of the regular season.
Crouch provided the keys for LC-M to achieve victory on Friday. Being on the road and a district game means this game will require maximum effort and focus from the Bears in all three phases of the game offense, defense, and kicking. “We need a good week of practice and be ready to play a good Huffman team,” Crouch concluded.
