
Vidor police said a Mauriceville man is in the county jail facing charges of aggravated assault and possession of methamphetamine after firing a gun outside a vehicle. Police found his wife and five children cowered in the vehicle.
The incident was reported about 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Vidor police were called to the 2300 block of Highway 12.
The man was located nearby and was pointing a small pink handgun to his head. Police talked him into dropping it.
Captain Rodney Johnson said the woman told officers she was driving and her husband hit her. She had a cut above her eye and blood was running down her face.
She told officers she stopped the vehicle and everyone got out. The man had a handgun and began firing it. The woman and children got in the vehicle and got down.
After police arrived, two of the children told officers the man had gone into a nearby apartment complex. Officers found him there pointing the pistol at his head.
Captain Johnson said after the man surrendered, officers found a small box in his pocket containing methamphetamine.
Steven Edward Kyzar was arrested and taken to the Orange County Jail. He faces charges of aggravate assault-domestic violence, possession of a controlled substance, and unlawfully carrying a weapon in a weapon free zone.
