Bridge City had a new city secretary sworn in Tuesday. Retiring City Secretary Sherry Tisdale gave the oath of office to her successor Jeanie McDowell.
Tuesday’s City Council meeting will be Tisdale’s last for her as city secretary. She officially retires on October 31 when a retirement party will be held in her honor.
McDowell (left) was appointed to replace Tisdale (right) in August. She has been handling the duties of city secretary during City Council meetings the last couple of months.
The City Council approved a new contract with the Bridge City Police Association. City Manager Jerry Jones indicated the new contract is very similar to last year’s agreement. “Basically, the only thing added to last year’s contract is a three percent increase in salary and two new police cars. The contract is basically the same thing we had last year,” Jones informed. The contract will be effective October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2019.
At the beginning of the meeting the City Council recognized one of its outstanding citizens with a proclamation. Bridge City High School graduate Alexus Henry was honored for her winning the High Jump event at the NCAA Division One National Outdoor Track and Field Championship in June of this year.
Mayor David Rutledge read the numerous achievements Henry had accomplished at Bridge City and currently at the University of Texas at Arlington. Rutledge presented the proclamation to Henry’s brother John who had Alexus on his Face time while the proclamation was being read. Also attending was Henry’s mother Shelly.
