LCM quarterback Adam Pope threw four touchdown passes in the first half as the Bears opened up district play with a 33-14 win over Bridge City.
The Bears took advantage of three straight Cardinal fumbles in the first half to jump out to a 19-0 lead.
Brett Keele scooped up the first fumble that lead to Pope’s first TD pass to Darien Williams and a Kooper Abernathy kick. Still in the first quarter, Monterey Valladares recovered a fumble. Five plays later RB Landon Bearden punched it in from the six but the PAT was no good. The third straight fumble was stripped away by LCM’s Gavin Ihle. Pope then hit Brendon Pollock from 32 yards away for the three score lead.
The Cards held on to the ball long enough to score as quarterback Case Skinner took it around the left end from the four and Oscar Carranza added the PAT.
Then the pivotal moment of the game. After BC scored, LCM fumbled deep in their own territory giving the Cards a chance to make it a one score game. But the LCM defense tightened up and ended the threat with a big sack on Skinner on fourth down. Three plays later Pope hit Williams again, this time for 64 yds and a 14 point swing made it 26-7.
A quick three and out by BC gave LCM another chance to score and they did, Pope to Williams for 57 yards and a 33-7 lead at half.
The turnovers helped the Bears dominate after two quarters, tallying 270 yards of offense to BC’s 68.
In the second half the Cards opened with an 8 minute drive that resulted in a 2 yd. TD on fourth and goal by Rylan Ply. The Bears would counter with an eight minute drive of their own that took up most of the second half. They failed to score but got on the bus 1-0.
Pope finished 14-25 for 232 yds. and four scores while Williams had nine receptions for 165 yds. and three touchdowns. LCM offense bested BC 338-138.
LCM (1-0, 2-4) will host Splendora Friday. BC (1-5, 0-1) will travel to Huffman.
