The list is small when it comes to baseball players from Orange County committing to major Division I programs. Actually make that in any sport. So when Bridge City junior Logan Hamm recently committed to the Texas A&M Aggies, it was a big deal.
“Obviously Logan is excited,” his father Robert said. “And he understands the commitment in announcing. It was his decision and now that he’s made it, he can concentrate on helping Bridge City reach the State Tournament.”
It wasn’t as easy as it would be for those who are born Aggies. “No he wasn’t brought up an Aggie,” his dad laughed. “I went to Oklahoma and his grandfather is a longtime Longhorn. But he hit it off with the Aggie staff and enjoys the area there.”
The coaches told the All-Stater to bring all of his gloves and bats when he heads to College Station. In other words the versatile right-handed, lefty-swinging brute could be used in many positions, just as he is at BC.
Hamm hit .381 last season at the plate and carried a 1.40 ERA on the mound. The first official day of baseball practice is January 25.
