
A Tennessee man is facing a charge of possession of heroin. Orange police reported finding the drug after a pickup truck ran a patrol vehicle off the roadway on 37th Street Friday afternoon.
A patrol officer said he was traveling south in the 3700 block of 37th Street at 3:24 p.m. Friday. A green Ford pickup traveling north veered into the southbound lane. The officer said he had to steer to the side and the passenger tires on his vehicle went onto the grassy area along the street.
The officer turned around and made a traffic stop on the truck. He reported the driver of the truck made furtive movements and tried to hide black bag. At one point, when the officer asked to see the man’s hands, the man was holding two knives.
The officer then got the man out of the truck to handcuff him. According to the officer, the man was holding something in his hand and tossed it, then tried to step on it. The officer found a store receipt wrapped around a white and brown cube of heroin.
After a search of the truck, the officer found 15 Lorazapam pills of different strengths. The prescription on the bottle was to a woman.
33-year-old James M. Andrew of Tennessee was arrested for state jail possession of a controlled substance in connection with the heroin and Class A misdemeanor possession in connection with the pills.
A woman drove through her garage in the Ridgemont subdivision Sunday night. Orange police went to the 3700 block of Ridgemont Drive about 9 p.m. An officer reported the Nissan Kick knocked off the garage door and damaged the back wall. The SUV also had front-end damage. The 47-year-old driver told police she is diabetic and had a low blood sugar problem.
