The executive director of the Southeast Texas Regional Planning Commission (SETRPC) has announced his resignation to take a position in the private sector. Shaun P. Davis will leave his position as the executive director effective September 28 after serving as the head of the tri-county organization for 11 years.
Applying for the position of executive director of the SETRPC is Orange County Commissioner Barry Burton. For the last three years Burton has served on the board of directors for the regional planning commission which serves Orange, Jefferson, and Hardin Counties.
His almost four years as county commissioner and three years with the SETRPC should serve Burton well if he is selected to be the new executive director. “A big part of that job is relationships knowing the people in the three-county area, the judges, the commissioners, the mayors, and the councilmen which I have a lot of that knowledge already,” Burton said. He reminded of his experience also dealing with legislators on both the state and federal levels.
Burton’s term as vice-president of the SETRPC was transferred to fellow Orange County Commissioner John Gothia earlier this year. “I feel it would be a step in my progression of service to be a part of that organization in an executive director’s capacity especially running that organization,” Burton stated. His term as County Commissioner in Precinct 2 will expire at the end of this year.
