Many of the weekend calls to the Orange Police Department involved family disputes, including one in which a husband and wife fought about a Facebook post. In another case, an ex-partner is suspected of taking two TVs and a chihuahua.
Officers answered a 911 call Friday night at 8:11 to the 900 block of DuPont Drive in the Cove neighborhood. A 28-year-old woman had a small cut under her right eye, a scratched chest, and a cut bottom lip. She told an officer she and her husband got into a fight after arguing about a Facebook post.
She said he grabbed her by her hair. Then she got her gun and fired a shot into the ground. He wrestled the gun away from her and chased her with it. Police arrested 39-year-old Michael David Bellon for Class A misdemeanor assault-family violence.
A burglary was reported about 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the 1000 block of Seventh Street in the Old Orange Historic District. The house was damaged during the break-in and a chihuahua plus two TVs were missing.
A tit-for-tat case of damage was reported about 6 p.m. Saturday at a house on Eads Avenue in the Sunset Park area. Police Detective Captain Robert Enman said a window pane had been broken and the damage is suspected to be part of revenge after a car window was broken.
In another case Saturday evening, officers went to the Linkwood Apartments about 7:30 in a case of theft and family violence. A woman said she had been visiting people she knows when items were taken from her purse. She went to the apartments to recover the items and another person hit her.
However, family or friends are not connected to the theft of a purse. Sunday afternoon a woman reported her purse was stolen from her vehicle while she was at church in the 500 block of Sixth Street.
A 17-year-old girl from Orange was not injured even though the pickup truck she was driving caught fire after it traveled off an Interstate 10 access road Saturday night.
Orange police reported the accident was about 9 p.m. Saturday. A Ford F-150 was traveling in the 2100 block of South Lutcher Drive eastbound toward 16th Street. The truck left the roadway near a curve. The truck went off into a ditch and immediately burst into flames.
