Sunset Grove Country Club will be closing the clubhouse while it undergoes a major renovation.
“The plan is to reopen in January,” said Ross Smith, speaking on behalf of the shareholders.
The building currently consists of a kitchen, restaurant, ballroom, bar, two smaller rooms, locker rooms, offices, and a patio.
The renovations include leasing the restaurant to Stephen Nguyen, the owner of Reel Cajun Restaurant.
“He has successful Reel Cajun restaurants in Port Arthur and Lumberton and we’re looking forward to him coming to Orange,” Smith said.
The restaurant will be open to the public Smith said.
The current building was built after a fire destroyed the original two story building in 1959.
The golf course will remain open as the pro shop is in its own building. The course, designed by famed architect Donald Ross in 1923 is one of 400 he has designed throughout the country. In Texas he designed the Orange course and the River Oaks Course in Houston.
The country club is non-profit and owned by its shareholders.
