The Orangefield Bobcats took on the Houston Kipp Jaguars Friday at F.L. McLain stadium. OF left the stadium 1-0 after a 61-0 win.
The Bobcats started the game with an early lead of 6-0 thanks to a good running attack that ended with a Blake Bradley touchdown.
The Jaguars next possession end quickly due to Orangefield’s defense working hard with notable stops from Clayson Choate and Colby Gonzales. After the Jaguars punted, the Bobcats quickly took advantage with a completed pass to Ethan Lozano for at 40 yard gain. This was a huge play for the Bobcats, leaving them on the Jaguars 21-yard line. Next came the hand off to Kade Grozier, who completed a 21 yard run for the touchdown. Derek Glaze, provided the extra point. With 8:32 left in the first the Bobcats lead 13-0.
After the Bobcat’s kickoff, the Jaguars attempted a few runs that were stopped by the Bobcats “D”, notably Kent Michael. After four plays, the Jaguars punted. After chipping away with the run game which included a quarterback keeper that Gonzales brought to the 8 yard line, the Bobcats handed the ball off to Bradley for an 8 yard touchdown and a 20-0 lead.
OF took advantage on their next possession with two big plays offensively. Heston Puckett had a nice 20 yard run. And Quy Tsan took a handoff 34 yards for a touchdown on the next play. This ended the action in the first quarter with the Bobcats leading 27-0.
The second quarter started off with a bang after a blocked punt by Kent Michael which resulted in a Bobcat touchdown and the completed extra point. With 10:53 left in the second, the Bobcat’s lead 34-0. The Bobcats next scoring drive was a result of a quarterback keeper by Gonzales leaving the ball on the Jaguar’s 26-yard line. From there, Puckett took a hand off for the 26-yard touchdown. After the extra point, the Bobcats lead 41-0.
OF took advantage of another Jaguar fumble and Chase Broussard turned it into a 31-yard touchdown and a 48-0 halftime lead.
The Jaguars couldn’t seem to move the ball past the Bobcat’s defense to start the second half and punted. This allowed Bobcat fans to see a little work from some other players. Blake Love stepped up into the quarterback position and handed off to Puckett for a nice run. Shortly after a few more runs, a handoff to Kayson Dubois resulted in a 10-yard touchdown. With the extra point the Bobcats now lead 55-0 going into the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter proved to be a little quieter than the beginning of the game but the Bobcat’s defense held strong, never allowing the Jaguars to score. OF ended the game with one more touchdown, brought across the line by Clayson Choate.
OF will travel to Livingston Friday. Livingston lost to Shepherd 68-7.
