Orange County received some good news on Friday. County Judge Dean Crooks shared that the much anticipated first check from FEMA was deposited that day.
Confirmation was received on Friday of a check for $9,264,162.09 being deposited to the county’s account from FEMA through the Texas Department of Transportation which handles the transaction. The check represents just the first reimbursement payment from FEMA for debris removal carried out by the county.
The check obviously comes at a good time with the Commissioners Court currently working on preparing the budget for next fiscal year. Judge Crooks stated it will help the county be financially stable. “We can move forward and get on with this next year,” Crooks added.
The county judge was quick to thank the diligent efforts everyone contributed who worked to take care of the paperwork and other details to meet the requirements of FEMA to make the big check possible. Receiving especially strong praises from Crooks was Emergency Management Coordinator Joel Ardoin and his staff for their excellent work in preparing all the documents necessary following the disaster from Tropical Storm Harvey.
Another budget workshop is scheduled for Tuesday morning. Three departments will present their needs, concerns, and capital outlay request to the Commissioners Court. The workshop will be at 9:00 AM in the Commissioners Courtroom of the Administration Building.
