Darrell Huffman, 57, of Newton, has been booked into the Newton County Jail on Capital Murder in the death of 59 year old Dora Lynn Johnson. Her body was discovered in the remains of the burned house on Count Road 3038 in Newton County.
The investigation so far has indicated that Darrell Huffman caused the death of Dora Johnson by fire.
Justice of the Peace Pct. 3, Mike Greer has arraigned Huffman on Capital Murder and set bond at $ l,000,000.00.
The Newton County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a lady in reference to an explosion near her home. When she looked outside, the house was fully engulfed. She stated that she did not know if anyone was inside. The 911 caller called back and stated that a man who lived at the home said his girlfriend was inside the home.
Newton Fire Department and Trout Creek Fire Department responded. Once the firemen were able to enter the house, they located the deceased victim.
Justice of the Peace, Connie Smith Pct. 1, Newton County was called to the scene and held the inquest. She ordered the body taken to the Jefferson County morgue for an autopsy.
The Newton County Sheriff’s Office, Newton Police Department, State Fire Marshall, and Texas Rangers are conducting this investigation.
