Two men from Vidor have been arrested and charged in Jasper County with multiple thefts and more charges could be coming.
According to KJAS Radio, 49-year-old Willie Cowart (right) and 39-year-old Jesse McDaniel are accused of stealing two brand new trolling motors from Jasper Outboard on Highway 96 North on Wednesday, July 18th and then fleeing from officers in a black Ford Mustang.
Although the crime occurred in Jasper, it was Jasper County Constable Niles Nichols and Jasper County Lieutenant Morgan Downs who captured the suspects.
Nichols also located inside the car a cache of pawn shop tickets which police later said were from the sale of other stolen trolling motors from boat businesses in the Golden Triangle.
Cowart has been charged with two counts of theft of property, along with evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle, and a charge out of Jefferson County for failure to identify. His total combined bond for the local charges is $16,000.00. However, bond was denied on the charge out of Jefferson County.
McDaniel was charged with two counts of theft of property, and his total bond was set at $11,000.00.
