
Municipal employees in Bridge City will see a reduction in their insurance costs next fiscal year. Dale Etheridge who serves on the committee seeking insurance for Bridge City informed the City Council Tuesday that the current provider had lowered their rates by 7 to 8 percent, and they were not the low bidder.
Humana Plan Option 22 was the low bidder and was awarded the contract for medical insurance. Blue Cross Blue Shield will provide the dental insurance for city employees and Fort Dearborn will cover the employees for life insurance. City Manager Jerry Jones said Bridge City will save about $24,000 in its part of the insurance coverage next year.
Amendments to the nepotism provision of Bridge City’s Personnel Policy was tabled. Councilwoman Tammi Fisette asked for the ordinance that would have amended the policy be tabled so she could compare both versions of the provision before it is approved.
The council approved a resolution to request the Texas Water Development Board to help replacing manholes. Bridge City wants to replace 51 manhole covers.
Jet Aeration was awarded the contract for construction as part of a Texas Community Development Block Grant. Jet Aeration submitted the low bid of $274,165 and will commit an additional in-kind contribution of over $36,000 to the project.
Jessica Hill and Chris Kovatch gave a presentation to the City Council requesting an agreement between the city and TxDOT to allow Next Generation Orange County to install artwork on traffic signal boxes in Bridge City. The traffic signal boxes are owned by TxDOT.
Hill and Kovatch would like to have a vinyl wrap put on the boxes to improve their appearance. They said local businesses or individuals could sponsor having the wrap put on the boxes.
Bridge City would be responsible for insuring the process and the cost if it was decided in the future to remove the wraps. City Attorney Paul Fukuda suggested the council table the item until he could hammer out several details of the agreement. The City Council agreed to table the request.
